UK Road Trip
In March, 2024 I was given another opportunity to travel to the UK for work, and even better, this time to Edinburgh Scotland! My host for the tip was my long-time co-worker and friend Phil M., based in Wales. Since I was able to add a few days to the trip, we decided to make it a road trip and did a wonderful 800+ mile trip around the country.
The Map
Here is the route we took with stops going to and from Edinburg.
First stop, York UK!
An original building from the 1300's.
A Harry Potter themed shop.
Some unique overhang architecture and ghost tour!
The oldest street in York, UK from the 1030's.
Stop #2
Next stop, Edinburgh!
The main purpose of the visit was to attend a conference for work here, but we did manage to explore and visit the famous Edinburgh Castle.
A typical alleyway.
Monument and Edinburgh Castle.
Fountain and Edinburg Castle.
New College, just down from the Castle.
The knight guarding the entrance.
War Memorial.
Dungeon/Prison.
Clocktower back on street level.
St. Margaret's Chapel, from 1130!
Stop #3
The next stop was a bucket list item for me - Aran Bakery in Dunkeld, Scotland. Why? Because it's owned and run by one of the runner's up from the Great British Baking Show! What a treat and what delicious treats. 😁
The treats were so good, we went twice!
The local hotel.
Some traditional Scotland scenery.
Stops 4 & 5
After the conference ended, we started our trip down and back towards London. The first stop was two towns in the Lake District: Kendel and Bowness-on-Windermere.
Another chocolate shop visit in Kendel!
Some fantastic old rowing boats.
Local pub.
Stop 6 & 7
Three more stops to go! Here, we stayed in Lancaster, Phil's old stomping grounds when he used to work at the University.
Another old street in Lancaster.
Historic tea/coffee merchant still in business!
Lancaster City Hall.
Lancaster Castle.
Lancaster Castle.
The Knight guarding the entrance.
Stop #8
2nd to last top: Worcester Cathedral. This is a truly stunning cathedral with 1000's of details to explore and take in.
One of the alters.
Stained Glass.
French Knight.
Stop #9
Last stop before London and the airport. This was another bucket list item for me, as I'm a big fan of the TV Show that features this farm: Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime.
Me at the shop!
The owner is known for his very cheeky naming of products.
What a view!
What a trip! I cannot wait to go back and explore even more.
Happy Trails!
