Syracuse Fireworks

Post date: Jul 8, 2012 12:40:00 PM

Greetings! On July 7th, Syracuse hosted their annual Independence Day fireworks display at Inner Harbor, just down the street from Carousel Mall. In anticipation of the event and wanting to take photos, I did some scouting and determined that the Bear St. bridge would offer the most pleasing view and captures.

At around 8:30pm I met up with some of my students, one local photographer, and one photographer visiting from CT, and we all setup our tripods and claimed our spots. Prior to the show, we reviewed our settings, discussed angles and gear, and generally had a fun time waiting and watching the sunlight diminish.

At a few minutes after 9:30pm, the show kicked off. We made our final adjustments and then let our cameras do the work as we enjoyed a really lovely 25 minute display. I've embedded a few of my favorite shots below and a link at the end will take you to the full album. Enjoy! (Clicking on each photo will show a larger view.)

Syracuse Police, Fire, and Rescue on standby.

And the show starts!

All I can think of when I see this shot is a Muppet!

In this last shot, you can see 20-30 rockets all being launched for the finale.
