Playing with HDR photography technique

Post date: Mar 6, 2011 7:02:13 PM

On the first beta show of the new TWiT.tv podcast "Mostly Photo" they had, as a guest, Trey Ratcliff. He is known around the world for his stunning travel photography using the HDR (high dynamic range) technique and hosts the #1 travel photography blog on the Internet at: www.stuckincustoms.com

Inspired by his quick demo of HDR, I thought I might enjoy having a go at this. Using the free trial of the suggested software by Trey, Photomatix, here is my very first attempt - enjoy!

Original base exposure

HDR exposure using the base + one over-exposed image at +2

I'm shooting my Canon Rebel XSi with the kit lens at about 38mm effective.

There is a ton of info available on the web about HDR, including Trey's own HDR Tutorial which gets very high praise.

I don't anticipate ever being an expert at this technique and defer to those who are the masters. :-)

Happy Shooting!
