My wife and I enjoyed another perfect weather weekend and visit to a local zoo. This time it was the Utica Zoo in Utica, NY. They have a very nice park with a good selection of animals, including a California Sea Lion. It looks like they are also working to expand some of the enclosures and bring online some new exhibits, so we're interested to follow their progress over time. Below is a selection of photos that came out decent despite the harsh afternoon light. Enjoy!
African Lioness and Lion
North American Porcupine (much smaller than the African Crested Porcupine)
Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture
California Sea Lion (650 lbs!)
California Sea Lion kiss
The Zoo does a great job catering to the younger crowd as well, with a children's zoo, playground, learning centers, ice cream stand, and this wonderfully designed drinking fountain:
Thirsty? Just stick your head into the mouth of the lion!
