A Morning With Raptors

posted Feb 28, 2015, 3:20 PM by Phil Spitze
My wife and I were lucky enough to be invited to Liverpool Art Center (http://www.liverpoolartcenter.com/) for a presentation and photo shoot with 3 magnificent raptors from Talons! A Birds of Prey Experience (http://www.talonsbirdsofprey.com/).  How fantastic to be up and close with these birds and to capture them with my camera!  Lorrie, the falconer and proprietor, was delightful and full of interesting information about the birds.  Please scroll down and be dazzled by Big Mama (Eagle Owl), Machu (Harris's Hawk), and Ravi (Saker Falcon).  Enjoy!

Big Mama was feeling a bit of a chill, so puffed herself up to stay warm.

Here Machu is defending his space with a little show of defense.

Ravi (only 8 months old!) shows off his wingspan.

A good view of Ravi's "spinal tooth", which is used to hook and cut the spinal cords of prey.

What a fantastic morning!  Can't wait to connect with Lorrie again and bring these 3 to my photography students.
